Local MP and students at the charity event

In June 2023, aspiring medical students and twins Hasini and Hanshika decided to fundraise for RMBF by organising a fun run at their school.

Incredibly, they raised close to £1000 to help doctors and medical students, saying “We enjoyed the entire process as it gave us a valuable opportunity to learn about what organising an event is like.” You can read more about their fundraising here.

A year on…

We got in touch with Hasini and Hanshika recently. Happily they are both successful in getting into the same medical school and have just started in their first year- congratulations!

Hasini and Hanshika stood outside together, smiling

Hasini and Hanshika both talked about how fundraising had helped their medical school application.

Hanshika felt that:

Organising the fun run was one of the best things I could have done. It not only highlighted to medical schools my organisational and critical thinking skills but also was a great thing for me to talk about interviews and personal statement as it helped me stand out from other applicants. I am still using the skills I gained from that experience to help me now when applying for various positions now.

Hasini also described her experience:

I thought that the opportunity to organise a fundraiser event for the RMBF helped me develop key skills such as time management and organisational skills. I really enjoyed the fundraiser and it was great to know that it will help make a difference.

We’re very grateful for Hasini’s and Hanshika’s support and wish you both well in medical school!
