Sharon’s Half Marathon

About me

Hi! I am Sharon, a 4th-year medical student at the University of Sheffield and a volunteer for the RMBF.

Why I wanted to fundraise for the RMBFSharon, dresses in a yellow top and grey backpack, outside in a green area with a tree, in the sun

I chose the RMBF as my charity because I am passionate about helping colleagues and classmates who might be struggling. The RMBF provides a vital lifeline to doctors, medical students and their families in times of difficulty.

I have a lot of friends who are doctors, and they tell me about colleagues who are struggling to get by. I wanted to do my part to support the RMBF and their incredible work.

Why I decided on a half marathon

I fell in love with running a few years ago and have run 5Ks and 10Ks, but I wanted to challenge myself by running a half marathon.

What I enjoyed

Sharon, smiling and holding a medal, wearing an RMBF vestI was so excited about the half-marathon and fundraising for the RMBF. Having a cause to run for motivated me through the training and the last miles of the race.

On race day, the atmosphere was electric, I couldn’t wait to cross the start line. The first 5 miles of the race was uphill and that wasn’t easy, but the crowds were cheering loudly so that helped me keep moving.

The rest was mostly downhill but still challenging. I had so much fun and raised money for the RMBF. A huge shout out to my friends and family who donated!

What I would say to anyone thinking about fundraising

Just do it and don’t be afraid of posting about the fundraiser multiple times!

Thank you Sharon, for all your effort training and fundraising, so that doctors and medical students can receive help in tough times.
