About me
Hi, my name is Ananya, and I’ve just started Year 12. In Year 11, I began to seriously explore a career in medicine, and after observing doctors during work experience, I realised that this is the path I want to pursue.
Why I wanted to fundraise
As I learned more about the medical profession, I became aware of how challenging it can be, not only academically and emotionally, but also financially. Training to become a doctor is demanding enough, and I can’t imagine how difficult it must be when financial pressures are added on top.
Recognising my own sense of privilege, I wanted to make a difference by supporting those who might be struggling. That’s why I chose to fundraise for RMBF, a charity that provides vital support to doctors and medical students in need.
How I fundraised
My fundraising was mostly through word of mouth by sharing information with friends about the amazing work RMBF does and encouraging them to donate. My parents were also a huge help, not only by donating themselves but by spreading the word to colleagues and friends, helping me reach beyond my initial goal of £200.
Why I chose a 10K run
Over the summer holidays, I picked up running again after taking a break for a year. Gradually, I built up my endurance and decided that a 10K run would be the perfect way to test my progress and challenge myself. Having such a meaningful cause to run for made it so much more motivating, especially during the tougher parts of training!
What I enjoyed most
The run itself was an incredible experience. I loved the sense of community, with everyone cheering each other on and making sure everyone was okay, especially as we reached the final kilometres.
It was inspiring to see others taking on even longer distances like the half marathon. Finishing the run and knowing I’d helped raise money for such a worthwhile cause was deeply rewarding and I would definitely encourage others to do something similar!
Thank you, Ananya for all your hard work training and fundraising, to help doctors and medical students in difficult times.
