Amelia’s 10k run between hospitals

About Me

Amelia and Lebone, smiling, stood outside in thick coats and hoodsMy name is Amelia Southern and I am passionate about pursuing a career in medicine.

I’ve always admired the dedication and resilience of healthcare professionals, but I also know that the journey to becoming a doctor comes with immense pressure, financial strain, and unexpected challenges.

That’s why I decided to fundraise for the Royal Medical Benevolent Fund. An incredible charity that supports doctors, medical students, and their families during times of hardship.

Whether it’s financial difficulties, illness, or mental health struggles, the RMBF provides assistance to those who need it most, and I wanted to contribute to their cause.

The event

To raise funds, me and my friend Lebone completed a 10k run from Aintree hospital to Alderhay, which took us up to 2 hours as we wanted to take some pictures and videos documenting our run.

We decided to take part as we have always enjoyed staying active and in the past went on runs together, but this was a completely new level of endurance. It wasn’t just about completing the run; it was about making a real impact for those in the medical field who might be struggling.

What I enjoyed

One of the best parts of this experience was seeing the support from friends, family, and even strangers who believed in the cause. Their generosity reminded me how much people value and appreciate the work of doctors and medical students.

It also showed me how powerful fundraising can be, not only in raising money but in raising awareness for important issues within the medical profession.

To any aspiring medical students considering fundraising, I would highly encourage you to do it! Medicine is about helping others, and this is one way you can make a difference even before starting your career. It’s a fantastic opportunity to challenge yourself, connect with a great cause, and experience the joy of giving back.

Thank you Amelia and Lebone for running despite the cold, wintery conditions! Your fundraising means more doctors and medical students can receive the help they desperately need.
