Isobel’s Bristol to Bath Cycling Challenge

About me:

Hi! My name is Isobel and I’m a year 12 student fundraising for the RMBF.

Why did I choose to fundraise for the RMBF?

Isobel, stood on a street next to her bike, wearing a cylcing helmet and an RMBF cycling jerseyI have always been passionate about wanting to study medicine.

On work experience, I was absolutely struck by the dedication and perseverance of the healthcare professionals, and how, regardless of the mental and physical resilience they had to show, they continued to help and care for everyone to the best of their abilities.

The RMBF had been mentioned to me before, as a way to show support and give back to the community of doctors that does everything to keep the country happy and healthy. So when the opportunity presented itself to aid those that may need it, I jumped at the chance, and got training.

Why cycling?

Cycling has always been a central part of my life, my dad had made sure I could ride a bike as soon as I could walk; and we would go mountain biking, or cycle longer distances between towns when I was younger.

Although I had not cycled for a while, it was a really nice and nostalgic experience to cycle along the Bristol- Bath bike path with my dad again. And even more rewarding when I knew that it contributed to such an amazing cause.

What I enjoyed about the challenge/to anyone thinking about fundraising:

I enjoyed pushing myself to do something of this caliber. It has been an amazing experience that I couldn’t recommend enough. I loved every moment of it, and it was something that felt really right to do.

I can’t help but notice how much I take my healthcare for granted, and how much I haven’t truly appreciated all that the doctors and nurses have done for me throughout my life. To anyone considering fundraising with the RMBF, I can’t recommend it enough, it is so rewarding to know what you have done and been able to give back.

Thank you Isobel for all your efforts fundraising, training and taking part in this incredible challenge. You’re helping to give doctors and medical students hope and stability in difficult times.
