About me
My name is Rida and I’m in year 12, taking biology, chemistry and maths A levels. I’m an aspiring medic and wanted to pay it forward to the medical community for their hard-work and dedication – and fundraising for the RMBF was the perfect way to do this!
Why I chose to fundraise
I chose to fundraise for the RMBF after finding out about the amazing support they provide to medical students and doctors. Also, once I heard about the winter challenge, where if you raise £200 you receive a goody pack, chance to win a £50 voucher, certificate, and letter of recognition for your efforts, I knew I had to get involved.
Not only would it look great on medial school applications, but it was also a rewarding experience, whilst doing something I genuinely enjoy.
My fundraising activity
I decided to sell some handmade crochet items for my fundraiser event. I have loved crocheting ever since I was 7, so deciding on this activity was a no-brainier.
Over the weeks before my stall, I crocheted a lot of items, including keychains, Christmas ornaments, and toys like penguins, bees, giraffes, octopuses, ducks, bunnies, bears, and strawberries to sell at a local winter/Christmas fair. As well as this, I took orders for personalised items.
What I enjoyed
What I particularly enjoyed about the experience was that it combined my favourite hobby with fundraising for a good cause.
My advice to people who are thinking of fundraising would be to just go for it! Especially if you pick an activity that you are passionate about, it will be a really enjoyable and worthwhile experience!
Thank you Rida for creating such amazing crochet items and using your talents for a good cause. You’re making a real difference to doctors and medical students.
